WordPress Theme For Novel Writing

I couldn't find a good Wordpress theme for someone writing a novel, so I made one.  Check it out.

I've been wanting to write a sci-fi or fantasy (I'm stuck between two ideas) for years now, and keep never getting around to it.  Well, lately I've dusted off my potential plot lines and decided to write it with WordPress. This way I can get at it using whatever device I have handy.

My problem was that I couldn't find a WordPress theme that suited me, at least not in the first several pages of search results on WordPress.org.  So I wrote one.

Now, my theme probably doesn't comply with all of the WordPress theme design guidelines, and so I can't upload it to the public themes directory.  But I'm just using it privately on my own web server, so it really doesn't matter.  I thought I'd put it out there for anyone else in the same boat.  Here it is:

What I've done is simplify the average layout.  The Home page (not shown) is simply a list of chapters in order of last modified date. I'm thinking this way, chapters you've been working on lately will be higher up on the list. Each item on the list is a link to that chapter.  Once you're in the chapter, you see this above image, where the chapter is in the bigger left area, with a chapter list on the right. That right-hand list is in numerical order.  As long as you name the chapters with preceeding numbers it should work fine.

On both the main page, and in the right hand list, I'm assuming you'd use the excerpt for a general chapter description.

The zip file is here:  novel_writer.zip

Let me know if it helps.  If you make changes, let me know too; I might like your version better. 🙂

One thing I might like to do is figure out a way to turn the WordPress version of a novel into some sort of nicely formatted manuscript that you can submit to a publisher.
